As Obama directs his kabuki theater of US policy (non policy) at the UN and pretends to listen to the pleas of the Palestinians today:

Come to Liberty Plaza Now!  Your presence is requested.

OCCUPY WALL STREET started last Saturday, when 5,000 Americans descended on to the financial district of Lower Manhattan, held a people’s assembly and set up an encampment in Zuccotti Park on Liberty Street, a stone’s throw from Wall Street and a block from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.  Yesterday afternoon the Mayor of New York allowed his police department to begin shutting down supplies, comfort and utility to those brothers and sisters occupying “Liberty Plaza”.  Under a nearly complete United States MSM / media blackout, the cops just shut down the ‘generator and took all the gas, citing a fire hazard. No posted signs, masks or megaphones allowed. No structures (tents, arbors, shade, protection from the elements) allowed. No noise after 10pm.’  The OCCUPATION by dedicated Americans who are testifying via video relays: THE WHOLE WORLD IS WATCHING.

The rest of the police quickly cleared the scene as Wedes was removed. When they were gone, someone else stepped forward to volunteer to hold up the tarp over the media equipment.

Only ten minutes later, the police were back. A group of them approached another protester behind the meeting. As he was cuffed, officers shoved other protesters aside, who were chanting the NYPD’s motto, “Courtesy, Professionalism, Respect!” In the scuffle, a protester who had been making peace signs high above his head with both hands was grabbed by an officer, pushed to the ground, and arrested as well. The chant changed: “The Whole World Is Watching!” – wonderful Waging Non Violence blog!  please read whole post!

Last night hundreds bedded down in “Liberty Plaza” and Zucotti Park after sharing 4 days in protest and beginning their new week with arrests for wearing masks or jumping barricades that were unwarranted.   Some of the arrests were violent, yet protesters have been overall well behaved, lawful.  Their only drawback has been dis-organization and lack of focused message or demands; just the same blueprint as all the small social network, personal blog and alternative news sourced rebellions across north Africa and uprising through the  EU in the past year.    ADBUSTERS has been managing to establish  anchored messaging during the occupation, with help from friends like Roseanne Barr, Anonymous, the War Resister’s League and Code Pink to name only a few.  The majority of American activist groups have networked and supported this event including the upcoming Octorber2011 organizers.   The  general demand is for transparency in Banking, the reenactment of the Glass-Stegall Act and demanding that Congress spend military monies here at home.   The  ‘occupiers represent the  unemployed, uninsured, underemployed and totally insecure in the face of ever increasing social and financial inequities.’  They are are our proxies.  Youth has been given credit as the overwhelming attendee status, no doubt delighting Roseanne and Code Pink-ies!  But the crowd is peppered with Elders, professors, public and charter school teachers, garbage haulers, subway train operators and dozens of other NY, CT and NJ professionals donating vacation time to this successful occupation.   Many have traveled from states further to attend.  As of this morning, groups in San Francisco and Los Angeles are creating their own OCCUPATIONS of city financial blocks.

Anonymous posts this morning: There is a modest occupation going on in San Francisco and growing. They started out 6 and are growing exponentially, are at 555 California Street, and will have some communications up tomorrow. They’re throwing an invite to everyone who wants, everyone who can, and everyone at all who is around San Francisco.

Actions are also being organized for LA if you’re in SoCal, but it’s not ready yet. They’re using the chatroom at for temporary organizing until they start going public, and cordially inviting people to join them to help organize.  Chicago, Columbus, Miami and more activist groups cities every where are tweeting in with intentions to OCCUPY the fiscal centers’ of their cities.

FDL reports (and has since day 1):

Support for Occupy Wall Street is growing by the hour. Solidarity actions in Chicago, Phoenix and Paris, France, are all getting off the ground. In Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Atlanta, actions are in the works. Each of these may be occupations. And, now there is indication the International Workers of the World will have members at the site supporting the occupation plus it appears Sojourner’s, a Christian Left organization, is taking an interest in the action.

Additionally, this morning there is no explicit NYPD intimidation or harassment of the occupation to report. Some time during the night the police did approach and “dismantle” a projector that was being used to project Twitter updates on #OccupyWallStreet onto a sheet. The police gave some excuse that it blocked “line of sight” and so would not be allowed. There was also talk last night that police were claiming the “Sanitation Code” gave them the right to seize the tarps from the protesters as they did Tuesday morning.

From day one, FDL has been live blogging this action. I (and a team of dedicated FDLers who are constantly posting updates in the comments thread) have banded together to give you the latest updates and insight into the occupation. Here’s a list on Twitter to follow if you would like read reports from Liberty (Zuccotti) Park, where the encampment for the occupation is located.

Several activists are reporting that internet signals and access are being blocked at the “Occupy Wall Street” protest in New York. This same tactic has recently been employed at Bay Area Rapid Transit protests on the opposite side of the continent in San Francisco to shut down cell phone service. See a trend?

It is becoming quite obvious that despite the repeated betrayals of government, they want to take away the one thing The People still have: civil disobedience and a redress of grievances. The conviction of truth seekers and activists attending such events may be the only useful tool. The establishment can try as hard as they want, but these folks are so convicted that they will get their message out at all costs. Activists are now using cell phones for video and live feeds, the message WILL get out to the world, even if only one news station covers it. The real question on everyone’s mind, however, is if this Wall street protest is legitimately grass-roots or just a controlled opposition effort to raise tensions for something down the road.   When Iceland decided to stand up to the bankers, it was the alternative media that got the word out. Mainstream media? Crickets chirping. Unfortunately, it appears the fiasco in Iceland was a ploy to fast track Iceland into the European Union. Hopefully enough folks share said alternative media articles to let the rest know that resistance is possible, as well as exposing the bad deal that EU type membership is really entailed for such countries. When the color revolutions hit Libya and Egypt, it was also the alternative media who pointed out the propaganda and little known facts (for example, Libya’s new central bank). With such widespread control over technology and reporting tools, one begins to wonder if we will have to regress to carrier pigeons or seldom used methods for getting the word out. With gas being unavailable to the Wall Street activists, will we soon see a new Paul Revere type rider instead of getting Twitter updates? Many have warned about widespread riots and food shortages for years, these protests may just be the beginning. Even if this “Occupy Wall Street” event is just another planned bread and circus outlet for people legitimately concerned with the direction of the financial turmoil. (whole story @ WeAreChangeTV)

Like watching so many dominoes roll down in cascade, the old standards of MSM / media sources have failed to keep us honestly informed – in point of fact they have often kept us misinformed.   We must develop alternative news resources, your ‘mainline’ being the internet; and even here you will experience censorship that tries to prevent you from staying  in touch with the community of activism and political dissent that is your 1st Amendment right.  [Like Yahoo dicking around with my outgoing and incoming emails mentioning protest events.  *which they did!*]  While the OCCUPATION has been mentioned by Michael Moore during an interview with Rachel Maddow, all of the more “liberal” or “Progressive” major tv media has literally ignored this event… happening in their own back yard.  SHAME ON MADDOW, OLBERMANN AND SHULTZ.  Amy Goodman, per usual, has fairly tightly covered the ongoing OCCUPATION.  KO is on vacation, but that doesn’t excuse his lag on this.  You can bet if Young Turks were up and running they would be covering it.  MSNBC is NOT a viable news source… it is another corporate mind fuck market.  Huge disappointment, when Maddow is capable of so much more.  Her original base has left the building.  The NY page of HuffPo gave it lip service on Friday.  As usual, the UK and foreign press Al Jazzera are doing a more comprehensive coverage.  While the Obama White House has sold out the People for corporate security and the Congress operates under the flag of Corporations are People with bottomless banking for buying the laws of the land…

Amy Goodman / The Guardian read it

One of New York‘s better-known billionaires, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, commented on the protests: “You have a lot of kids graduating college, can’t find jobs. That’s what happened in Cairo. That’s what happened in Madrid. You don’t want those kinds of riots here.”

Riots? Is that really what the Arab Spring and the European protests are about?

Perhaps to the chagrin of Mayor Bloomberg, that is exactly what inspired many who occupied Wall Street. In its most recent communique, the Wall Street protest umbrella group said:

“On Saturday we held a general assembly, two thousand strong. … By 8pm on Monday we still held the plaza, despite constant police presence. … We are building the world that we want to see, based on human need and sustainability, not corporate greed.”

This IS a news event, and a precursor to another event, the OCTOBER2011.or event comes up on October 6th next month with the goal of occupying Freedom Plaza in DC, and any deliberate BLACK OUT OF THIS NEWS  EVENT BY THE GOVERNMENT or it’s corporate masters is an act of denying you your civil rights.  Here is a fundamental element in the evolving activism and protests or occupations of the moment: your satellite participation through the global consciousness!   The behind the lines support network … YOU AND I.  Your focused social networking, tweeting, Facebook interaction, phone calls and emails to protest targets, your blog posts and online interaction provide the much of the acurate ‘alternative’ news sources.  Many of us would wish to be able to be there.  If you cannot, just remember;  YOU ARE A PART OF THIS, YOU HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY EQUALLY ESSENTIAL.

These patriot occupiers are fighting for 99 percent of us. Those who are unemployed, uninsured, underemployed and totally insecure in the face of ever increasing social and financial inequities. They are standing up for those who cannot be there right now.

Here’s the good news — you can help, right now today — no matter where you are.

1) Spread the word — there’s something going on. People have started a movement — they’re occupying Wall Street. Hundreds of people have been camped out in lower Manhattan for four days!

2) If you’re in New York and can only spare a little time or money: bring American flags, cardboard, markers, water, etc. down to Liberty Park.

3) If you’re in the New York area and have a day, a morning, an afternoon, go down there. The weather appears to be holding. Take the day off and just go. I know it sounds hard to believe but you will be heard. This is an open general assembly effort and you will get your say and be a real participant.

4) If you are a little ways from NYC, organize foursomes to go to NYC for the day. It will cost you the train/bus/car fare. Take nothing but some food and water and your body.

5) Too far to get to NYC? Sign this petition and I will read your name and comments in Liberty Park this week, I promise. Break Up Goldman Sachs Now!

6) Be subversive against the big money interests wherever you are and encourage others to do the same. Don’t give the banksters 4 percent of every purchase you make with a credit or debit card — use cash. See: UseCashMovement

7) Be subversive: max out your credit card on large ticket items and return them the next day. (This one is right out of the Saul Alinsky playbook.)

8) Move your money from a big bank to a credit union.

9) Picket a local branch of a bank. When the press asks you what the heck you think you’re doing, tell them it’s in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

10) Send food to the protesters in Liberty Park through a New York friend or go to the live stream chat for information on local eats that will take your order. (Yes, you’ll have to use your credit card, big spender!)

11) Do you know anybody who knows anybody who knows a writer, a celebrity, etc. who will show their face at the protest? Get to them now.

This is a GLOBAL ACTION…the mistake being made by the corporate politico’s and regimes (including the US Congress and White House) is in thinking that these protests / occupations are not working.  Here are few things you can do to HELP:  (via Alternet)

Keep up the call in’s to ask for cooperation with the occupation at the local precincts and the NY Police Commissioner and the Mayor’s office.  Community Affairs @ the 1st Precinct: 212-334-0640  / 1 Police Plaza – the Commissioner – 212-374-5000 and the Mayor’s office:   (212) 788-0010.

This is how anyone can show support for protesters around the world, simply by boycotting certain products on certain days…

MONDAYS – Drink water when you eat out. Drink whatever you want at home, or if you have lunch at mom and pop establishments because they’re finding it hard enough to survive as it is. But if you go to some corporate chain restaurant, don’t ask for coffee or soda, just water – simply to show these big corporations we know how much profit they derive from the sale of beverages, and can shut down this aspect of their profiteering any time we want.

TUESDAYS – Have a sleep over with friends and family. Turn off the air conditioner (or turn down the heat), put a couple of lights on timers so potential theives cannot take advantage of you while you’re out, and spend the night with people you love. The purpose being to show the utility companies that we very well may need them at this point in time, but only half as much as they think. Plus it will serve notice that many of us are not happy with the dirty coal emissions and nuclear hazards associated with the current means of creating energy.

WEDNESDAYS – Don’t buy gas, for obvious reasons. Buy it as usual during the rest of the week, but refuse to line up at the pump and gulp down this environmentally dangerous product in the middle of the week.

THURSDAYS – Ignore the media. That’s right, fuck ’em. Do not watch television, buy newspapers or magazines, go to movies, purchase music, attend any sporting events that are broadcast on what my grandfather called the Boob Tube, or use the internet for anything other than communication purposes. Just to show the lying rat bastards that we’ve had enough of the smoke and mirrors bullshit they blow up our asses for the benefit of the ruling elite.

FRIDAYS – Debate how wise it is to allow over 60% of this nation’s retail sales to revolve around a holiday that, whether you’re a Christian or not, has devolved into a capitalistic feeding frenzy of materialism. Then if you should feel so inclined, suggest that we might boycott Christmas this year, if only to make a point about greed’s negative impacts on life.

WEEKENDS – Relax, you’ve done a good job.

    • Appreciate the flow of info… Thankx. :-) These are excellent suggestions. One unfortunate idea for me … Thursday ignore tech world… I have a radio show. Maybe it can move. I’ll repost these… on FB.

  2. Jack Jodell says:

BRAVO, Gwen! It is high time both the economic and political worlds hear from REAL people who have been, and still are being, devastated by their policies ! Let’s hope this quickly turns into an American version of Arab Spring, and that real, beneficial CHANGE for the better will result! ENOUGH of the same old bullshit, sister!

  3. Jack Jodell says:

Yes—it’ll be hope and change we can REALLY believe in, and not just a trite slogan!

  4. osori says:

Gwen, this is so beautiful, and so from your heart. Thank you for doing this so well, for tying our young people in with their counterparts throughout our world. The MSM, the pigs – we know where they stand. They stand where they always stood, as do the Maddows of the world. It’s up to the people, not the tools of the wealthy – especially those moving about and posturing, the Obots and their ilk.

    • TY my brother. I hope this is a short rebellion… that we find our way to good leadership…. gee Oso, I refuse to think it’s going to be rail rail rail at a lost Constitutional cause (s)… We shall We can overcome. !!

  5. Krell says:

With your first sentence, I knew this was going to be a great post! One of the things that this protest is showing is just how the MSM CANNOT be asked to report or inform on any type of real protest. The Koch Brothers artificial protests, yes… but not anything that protests the system entrenched. The MSM is a lost ally. It requires people like you, Gwen, to bring the news to the general public.

Seeing those SOB’s sipping the champagne off the balconies during that protest clip really brings out the arrogant side of what Wall Street and the huge investment firms have become. They feel that they are the engine of Americas economy when in reality they are the pariah. They need to be reined in, regulated, and if need be… thrown in jail.

    The world is watching!

    • U r too kind my fearless leader! I’m trying to put out the essence of what it is: UNJUST. CRIMINAL on the part of the establishment. OMG, did you ever think we’d be standing against The Establishment again? Last night Keith Olbermann made this the #3 story on Countdown. He has been off during the whole event. Apparently, he has been down to the Occupation himself, talking to and supporting Occupiers. The champagne drinking…. was a deliberate attempt by the bastards to ‘start’ something. Violence will discredit any of the movements …. To see a ground swell of new people arrive would be my wish. Wish I could do it. And yeah, they need to be thrown in jail… so dang badly.
