BitterSweet America
Protest
Throughout American history, the only way that change has occurred is when the people have demanded it by protest.
Change. There will not be an election that makes it happen.
There will not be a “magic” politician that will appear to be voted upon.
The politician is the end of the process for change. The final act.
Women’s rights, Civil Rights, Labor reforms, Equal Protection.
These changes all occurred because of protest and struggle
Forcing the politician to commit that vote.
Become aware, following blindly is not an option.
Protest is what made this country
Protest will be the only thing that can save it

When I was 12 or 13 I had a dream about Bobby Kennedy….every so often over the years, I have it again. He’s like a, nurturing but tough kinda spirit guide, I guess. I cherish it… it always gives me that little extra from ‘on high’ … to make it through. So does this. Thanks, Krell. Your message reminds us of our human purpose.
That intro section with Bobby was from the Appalachian 1968 “Tour” to highlight poverty and hunger in Eastern Kentucky. Geez…. remember those days when a politician cared about poverty?
I glad you liked it Gwen. I found a bit of renewed hope when making it. The power always has and always will rest within the people themselves. Hopefully our blog here has made some information available for that awareness.
Knowledge to the Social Consciousness.
Renewal is needed… I sense road bumps ahead for not just Amerika, but humanity … RENEW… certainly the right moment for it. New moon.
I’ve always loved the lyrics…..
‘Cause it’s a bittersweet symphony, this life
Try to make ends meet, you’re a slave to money then you die
I’ll take you down the only road I’ve ever been down
You know the one that takes you to the places
Where all the veins meet, yeah
No change, I can change, I can change, I can change
But I’m here in my mold, I am here in my mold
But I’m a million different people from one day to the next
This is powerful and inspiring and demonstrates that uniting EN MASS could really bring change.
The lyrics seem to really fit the message I was trying to project. Thank you for the kind words, Jenelle.
The power still rests with the people. The difficulty is getting the people socially aware and realizing this.
“Bittersweet Symphony” is an inspirational masterpiece. We have little time to effect positive change for the generations to come: yet, it is our duty to do so.
The current “1968″ exhibit at Oakland Museum has a display dedicated to Bobby Kennedy. It’s as if you’re inside his funeral train, looking through the window at all the people lining the tracks as the train made it’s way to his final resting place. I lost it and sobbed like a baby. He supported the peoples’ struggles in the 1960s, he did care about peoples’ lives and people loved him in return. ~~ It’s all a bittersweet symphony, indeed….
There was a reason that I started the clip off with Bobby Kennedy, Maureen.
I couldn’t have explained it any better than what you have done.
George, I got the feeling that Bobby is right here *again* doing the same thing with us all…. hey, it’s moment in the Universe.
Don’t you older people get tired of always protesting the same things? No I am not being snarky or smart assed I mean it, didn’t you think when some of this was happening the first time and people were out on the streets to affect change it wouldn’t be needed as much. Cool video though, you could also have used American Idiot by Green Day, which is another take on our times right now.
Old people…?? You young whipper snappers, with your youth, lack of wrinkles, and clear thoughts, think you’re all that huh?
Well…. all I can say is….. is……uh…..uh….get off my lawn.
Well you guys went before us in the protesting movements for all kinds of things. I imagine some of the older ladies that read here, have been in the streets for choice and women’s rights maybe. Maybe some of you older guys against Vietnam or (insert whatever here) Like I will be able to tell my yet to be here’s, I was protesting the death penalty outside San Quentin, and hopefully when they get older the DP will have been gone for years or at least going away, so we don’t have to protest that barbaric torture method anymore. Really I was not being a smart ass, I wanted to know how you older guys feel about having to do this all over again for the same shit that has been happening and how do you do that and keep it fresh if you will. Hey now, I have the start of a couple wrinkles around my eyes but I will take them as aging gracefully life lines. I am in my 30s now. Yeah I can say that since I turned 31 back in June, makes me feel older and wiser
One of those last things is certainly up for debate.
It does seem like some of the things being protested are rehashes of previous items. Especially for some of those Womens Rights that seemed so long ago. and already done with. Perhaps there never is a end to the struggle. Things left alone will fall into disarray or gradually drifting towards the side that remains. It seems like a lot of the conservatives never forgot the 60′s and the New Society… hell, some of them probably never forgot when Roosevelt brought in the New Deal.
But when you think about it, what other choice is there but to protest and fight for what you believe in?
